Domette chest felt is a soft, lightweight cotton felt with a brushed surface and a low-loft, wadding-like feel. It holds its shape without adding bulk, and as a non-woven felt, it cuts cleanly without fraying — no pinking shears or edge-finishing needed before use.

Domette goes inside suit fronts, chest canvases, and lapels, adding body and cushioning the pad-stitching so the structure underneath doesn’t show through the outer fabric. It’s traditionally paired with horsehair cloth to build a floating chest piece. It can also be molded over internal boning as a smooth underlayer, preventing the bones from showing or protruding through the outer fashion fabric.

For drapery, It’s used as interlining, placed between face fabric and lining in luxury window treatments to add fullness, body, and insulation. Domette and similar soft cotton interlinings are also used to pad wired foundations for bonnets, caps, and headdresses, providing a soft, moldable base layer for shaping before the outer fashion fabric goes on.
